NEOM & Beyond: Hydrogen's Leap in Saudi Arabia

The NEOM Green Hydrogen Project stands as a testament to Saudi Arabia’s determination to lead the global clean hydrogen economy. Situated within the $500 billion NEOM smart city, this project will produce 600 tons of green hydrogen daily, using over 4 GW of wind and solar energy.

Expected to begin operations in 2026, the facility will produce green ammonia for easy export, displacing more than 5 million tonnes of CO₂ annually. This project, led by NEOM Green Hydrogen Company (NGHC) in partnership with ACWA Power and Air Products, is not just the largest of its kind but a global benchmark for clean hydrogen production.

Saudi Arabia is not limiting hydrogen development to NEOM. The Kingdom has signed memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with Germany, South Korea, and Japan to export clean hydrogen and derivatives. Furthermore, partnerships with Italy focus on developing hydrogen refueling stations and certification schemes.

Saudi Arabia’s hydrogen strategy aims to diversify the economy, reduce dependence on fossil fuel exports, and enable global decarbonisation efforts. It’s a leap forward that places the Kingdom at the forefront of a global energy revolution.
