Saudi Arabia is actively transitioning towards a circular economy, focusing on waste reduction, recycling, and resource efficiency. This shift is integral to achieving the objectives of Vision 2030 and promoting sustainable development.

The Kingdom has set ambitious targets for waste management. By 2035, it aims to recycle 42% of waste, compost 35%, incinerate 19% for energy production, and manage the remaining 4% through other methods. These goals are supported by substantial investments in recycling infrastructure and waste-to-energy facilities.

The Saudi Investment Recycling Company (SIRC) plays a pivotal role in advancing the circular economy. SIRC is involved in developing integrated waste management systems, promoting recycling industries, and fostering public-private partnerships to enhance waste processing capabilities.

Public awareness campaigns are being conducted to encourage waste segregation at the source and promote recycling practices among citizens. Educational programs in schools and communities aim to instill a culture of sustainability from an early age.

Furthermore, regulations are being enacted to support circular economy principles, including incentives for businesses adopting sustainable practices and penalties for non-compliance with waste management standards.

Through these comprehensive measures, Saudi Arabia is making significant progress in transforming its waste management landscape, contributing to environmental protection and economic diversification.

As Saudi Arabia moves toward a more sustainable and diversified future, its commitment to circular economy principles is becoming a cornerstone of national policy and practice. By investing in advanced waste processing technologies, supporting public engagement, and developing robust regulatory frameworks, the Kingdom is turning waste into a valuable resource, fuelling economic growth while safeguarding the environment.

These transformative initiatives will be spotlighted at EMTEC 2025, the Environmental Management and Technology Conference and Exhibition, taking place from the 14th -16th December at the Dhahran Expo.

The event will convene global and regional leaders to discuss cutting-edge strategies in circularity and waste management, share best practices, and explore the innovations reshaping the Kingdom’s sustainability agenda.
